Engineer Claude Marais demonstrated how the console optimized games and used two monitors to compare the original game's visuals with the Series X's enhanced graphics. While more recent games like Halo 5 saw much improvement and the implementation of previously unseen HDR support, the developer also showed how original Xbox games were optimized, displaying how even a year-old game could be given HDR support. While this news is exciting and speaks to the impressive technology the Xbox Series X has to offer, it's important to note that at the time of this report, developers are still working on expanding the console's support to older games.

According to compatibility program leader Peggy Lo, the team has a "curated" list of games that have been enhanced so far, and is working on improving frame rates and graphics through a variety of methods for differently-made games. Players with extensive back catalogs should be excited for the Xbox Series X's release.

With studios like The Coalition discussing how porting Gears 5 only took two weeks, it's clear that Microsoft places a lot of value in its classic library. Although the PlayStation 5 has received a lot of enthusiasm over the past months, the newest Xbox's offerings might give it an edge when it goes to market later this year. In fact, this might be the most "next-gen" looking game of the Series X launch lineup. It's a pretty good basketball sim too!

Ichiban Kasuga and his loyal party of down on their luck misfits are all lovable in their own quirky ways, and absolutely live up to the high standard set by Kiryu, Majima, and the rest of the Yakuza series mainstays. Yakuza: Like a Dragon is funny, emotional, expertly acted both in English and Japanese, and is just an all-around wonderful RPG that pays homage to the genres roots. Yakuza 8 is now in development at Ryo Ga Gotoku Studio. It'll be a direct sequel to Like a Dragon, set a few years later.

Agent 47's latest and for now, last outing is not only a much better game than its two last-gen predecessors, it's a much prettier one too. Hitman 3 has some truly breathtaking scenes from an eye-candy perspective, and of course it runs great on the Xbox Series X as well. The first mission in Dubai will get you hooked, but the remaining five — including the second one, which is essentially like a playable version of the fantastic film Knives Out — will keep your new Xbox powered on as you try out the myriad ways to take out your targets.

IO's plans for Hitman 3 in include new maps, new storylines, and new modes. The developer is also working on Project , a new James Bond game , and a new IP rumored to be an Xbox-exclusive fantasy game.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok , the game's next major expansion, sees Eivor travel to the realm of Norse mythology and embrace a new role as the Norse God Odin.

While it's a bit of a backhanded compliment to say that 's Gears 5 is arguably the most visually impressive game on the Series X at launch, the fact remains that the already-gorgeous Gears of War sequel has been dialed up to take advantage of Microsoft's new console.

Better lighting, raytracing, fps support in Versus multiplayer -- the bottom line is that if you skipped Gears 5 last year, the Series X is a great place to play it for the first time. However, it's a slow start to the year with only one notable release scheduled for January. Things pick up considerably in February with a handful of big games, including Dying Light 2 and the highly anticipated Elden Ring.
